Only 500 fans came out to watch home side Leverkusen take on defending Bundesliga champions, Turbine Potsdam, on Sunday afternoon. Leverkusen managed to contain Potsdam to only two goals during the first half, mainly due to the merits of goal keeper Lisa Schmitz. Leverkusen’s coach, Doreen Meier, made changes to her starting line-up which included a defensive tactic to disrupt Potsdam’s offensive flow. Elsig, Goette, and Weber were key players defensively for Leverkusen. Kasperczyk missed an early chance on goal for Leverkusen. Soon after, Potsdam began to find their rhythm against the compact Leverkusen defense.
International superstar, Anonma (Equatorial Guinea) scored her third goal in just two games in the 24th minute by successfully finishing a pass from Viola Odebrecht. Anonma scored Potsdam’s 1000th Bundesliga goal. Despite Leverkusen’s Schmitz making impressive saves, Bianca Schmidt managed to score Potsdam’s second goal following a corner kick just before halftime. Potsdam secured the match preventing Leverkusen from generating many productive offensive attacks. Another corner kick set up Potsdam’s final goal. Odebrecht connected with a strong header in the 83rd minute.

Duisburg made key tactical changes after last week’s 2-0 victory over Lok Leipzig. Bresonik and Weichelt started in favor over Ando and Silva. According to FCR Duisburg’s website, Bresonik was assigned a more defensive role and Laudehr was to be more offensive. Laudehr gave Duisburg an early lead by scoring in the 5th minute. For Hamburger, Kameraj did have a few opportunities on goal, but none resulted in anything significantly dangerous. Wensing scored the second goal for Duisburg just prior to half time. Following the intermission, Duisburg’s offensive energy dwindled slightly, as their lead seemed well intact.
Despite the two goal victory, Duisburg’s coach, Ketelaer, believes that his team needs two-three weeks to develop.

Credit Lok Leipzig for preventing the visitors, Frankfurt, from scoring until the 38th minute. Leipzig was determined to put forth a courageous effort against Frankfurt in front of their 1692 fans. Frankfurt finally scored when Bartusiak scored from a corner taken by Behringer in 38th minute. Frankfurt began to attack more in the second half with more successful movement and possession. United States National Team member Ali Krieger scored her first goal of the season. Bartusiak had a solid offensive outing scoring twice (38, 61) and Behringer scored the final goal in the 78th minute. Bajramaj had another successful game with Frankfurt as well as Huth and Crnogorcevic.

Visiting side, Bad Neuenahr, unexpectedly dominated the opening minutes of the match. Led by remarkable pressure by Okoyino da Mbabi, Bad Neuenahr’s balance of effective defensive pressure and support made advancement out of their defensive half quite difficult for Wolfsburg. With this effective high defensive pressure, Bad Neuenahr prevented Wolfsburg’s defensive line as well as their midfielders from maintaining possession. Early in the first half, Okoyino da Mbabi’s efforts rewarded Bad Neuenahr with a goal in the 7th minute. Okoyino da Mbabi's pass on the left flank created the opportunity for space to be opened centrally, allowing Petzelberger to smoothly secure her first goal of the season, as seen in DFBTV’s video highlights of the game.
Bad Neuenahr’s precise defensive movements were visiable throughout the pitch. Wolfsburg’s Kessler, Goessling, and Pohlers were completely shut down and ineffective. Wolfsburg failed to provide opportunities for sensational goal scorer, Pohlers.
As the second half’s minutes progressed, it became evident that Neuenahr’s coach, Bell, had tactically adjusted his side to become more defensive. Less high pressure was visiable—and Okoyino da Mbabi was the primary striker with Pyko and Petzelberger dropping back in more midfielder roles. With this change, combined with Wolfsburg’s adjustments, Wolfsburg began to seize possession. Crossing the midfield line was no longer a struggle for Wolfsburg. Unlike the first half, Wolfsburg’s midfielders and defenders were given plenty of time to make relaxed decisions as to where to advance the ball. Numerous scoring chances resulted from this tactical change. Wolfsburg’s coach, Ralf Kellermann, capitalized on Bad Neuenahr’s adjustments by subbing in Moser for Blasse, creating a spark offensively.
Despite Wolfsburg’s second half continual offensive attacks, Bad Neuenahr continued to apply solid defending against Pohlers. Unfortunately for Bad Neuenahr, a lapse in defending against Pohlers in the 77th minute costs them the win. Rewarded with a corner kick after a failed opportunity for Bad Neuenahr to clear the ball properly, Wolfsburg executed a low corner towards the near post side of the box. Pohlers, with deadly placement, secured Wolfsburg’s tying goal.
Bad Neuenahr failed to provide Okoyino da Mbabi with any offensive support, denying her creative freedom. Wolfsburg managed to escape an upset and stays unbeaten.

Few teams were successful in preventing Freiburg’s Leupolz from scoring last year. A similar pattern is already developing in the highest level of the Bundesliga. This match’s final score is deceiving. Bayern Munich played Freiburg evenly. Freiburg capitalized on the few mistakes Bayern made.
Bayern Munich had early scoring opportunities. Nicole Banecki early shot was saved by Freiburg’s goalie, Brunner. Bachor also failed to put her shot on frame. Freiburg was more accurate with their shots.
Opening minutes of the match consisted of Freiburg’s attack focused on attacking up the middle. Leupolz first goal came after a long ball was served to her off a quick counter attack. Ten minutes later, Leupolz scored again after Bayern Munich’s young defender, Baunach, could not handle the pressure Freiburg had put on her. Bayern Munich managed to score their only goal after Freiburg made a crucial error with their off-side trap. Rudelic found herself alone in the box and dutifully finished for the visitors.
Bayern Munich had to sub their goalie out in the early moments of the second half due to an abductor injury. Rudelic led Bayern’s attack for much of the second half but failed to capatilize. Makanza came off the bench and immediately scored for Freiburg in the 57th minute. Young star, Lena Lotzen entered the match in the 74th minute for Bayern Munchen. Lotzen failed to score off a header (over the goal) as well as longer ranged shot.
The final result can easily be summarized. Freiburg earned this win by finishing their chances on goal. Bayern Munich lost this match because they failed to finish their chances on goal.

Although it was only the second game of the season, this match had been labled the battle of the regulation teams. Harsh label, perhaps…but also probably true. The first half consisted of inexperienced play. Both teams lacked poise and struggled to maintain possession. Many errant passes were made and teams often fell into the poor habit of playing a “kickball” mentality. Ursula Holl made a few key saves for Essen. The match seemed to be headed towards a draw but Essen scored off a free kick that was awarded in the closing moments.
