Frauen Bundesliga Spieltag 10 Preview

Frauen Bundesliga Spieltag 10 Preview:

Followers of the Frauen Bundesliga have a great deal of matches of intrigue to choose from in Spieltag 10.  On Sunday, first place FFC Turbine Potsdam plays second place FCR 2001 Duisburg; third place FFC Frankfurt battles fourth place VfL Wolfsburg; fifth place Essen-Schönebeck plays sixth place SC Freiburg; seventh place Bad Neuenahr plays eighth place Hamburger; ninth place FC Bayern München plays tenth place FC Lok Leipzig; eleventh place USV Jena plays twelfth place Bayer Leverkusen.  Perhaps Spieltag ten should be labeled the “battle of table standings”.  To sum it up—all matches are crucial this week. See the table below to see how close the standings are in Bundesliga play. The only sure thing—Turbine Potsdam, win or lose, will remain in first place.  Every other team has the possibility of ascending or descending on the table.

11 UHR Matches:

FFC Frankfurt –VfL Wolfsburg
Frankfurt has experienced some setbacks during Spieltag nine and ten. With notable roster changes in Frankfurt’s line-up (primarily due to Champion’s League play), SC Freiburg was able to obtain a 1-0 victory.  The following week, Frankfurt failed to contain Turbine Potsdam’s quick start, and suffered back to back losses.  Technically, FFC Frankfurt is a superior elite team. Consisting of highly paid international star players, Frankfurt has the potential of being an intimidating team that is challenging to defeat. However, manager Sven Kahlert, is often over tweaking line-ups which seems to be causing major disruptions in rhythm and styles of play.  Consistency has been lacking in key areas of the pitch, especially within the defensive back line.

VFL Wolfsburg has settled down after back to back losses to top teams Turbine Potsdam and FCR 2001 Duisburg in Spieltag five and Spieltag six. My criticism with Wolfsburg has always been that they were weak defensively and had difficulty transitioning back after pushing forward offensively.  Coach Ralf Kellermann appears to have finally corrected the weakness. Wolfsburg’s starters during the first five matches included Faißt, Omilade, Henning, and Bunte. After benching Omilade and Bunte, Wolfsburg is undefeated when Faißt, Tezlaff, Henning, and Smith have started together.  Beyond having a solid defensive match, Wolfsburg will have to continue being offensively dangerous.
