Frauen Bundesliga Spieltag 10 Review


Brief Frauen Bundesliga Spieltag 10 review:
Spieltag 10 provided the rare opportunity of matches between 1-2; 3-4; 5-6; 7-8; 9-10; 11-12 place teams in the Frauen Bundesliga. What resulted was an entertaining Sunday of matches that enabled some teams to move up on the table.

 FFC Frankfurt 0—VfL Wolfsburg 1
Connie Pohlers goal in the 15th minute against her former team secured Wolfsburg’s victory against Frankfurt.  The match consisted of both teams being cautious and respecting each other’s ability. Ralph Kellerman has successfully tweaked Wolfsburg’s defense and has not lost since doing so. Sven Kahlert’s team, perhaps the victim of too much tweaking, continues to struggle despite the numerous amount of talent on Frankfurt’s squad. Wolfsburg replaced Frankfurt in the third spot of the Frauen Bundesliga table—knocking Frankfurt down to fourth.

USV Jena 2—Bayer Leverkusen  1
Only two points separated USV Jena and Bayer Leverkusen prior to Spieltag 10. USV Jena’s victory over Bayer Leverkusen was only their second of the season.  Amber Hearn scored from Julia Arnold’s free kick into the box during the first half for Jena. Arnold continued to be instrumental for Jena. Superb passing by Arnold led to Schmutzler delivering a perfect ball for Schiewe to score Jena’s second goal. Substitute Isabelle Linden spoiled Schroffeneger’s clean sheet in 83rd minute.  Leverkusen remains in the bottom position with a mere three points. Jena moves to 10th place, just one point ahead of Bayern München.

1 FFC Turbine Potsdam 2  --FCR 2001 Duisburg 3
Turbine Potsdam suffered their first loss of the season yet remain in first place in the Frauen Bundesliga. Despite Potsdam only allowing two goals during the first nine matches of the season, Duisburg managed to score three against Potsdam all within the second half. Potsdam initially took the lead by successfully working the ball from deep in the box to the unmarked weak-side allowing Hanebeck to have a clear shot on goal. Potsdam’s second goal came just before half when Duisburg’s Bresonik attempted to clear a floating free kick. Bresonik’s backward header failed to clear over the goal and landed far from the reach of goal keeper, Bellinghoven, and into the goal. Bresonik’s streak of misfortune continued, missing a penalty kick (hand ball). Although Alyssa Naeher made the save, Bresonik’s kick was struck poorly—without pace and low towards the left post
.  
Bresonik’s atonement for her mistakes began immediately at the start of the second half.  While taking on her defender towards the goal, Bresonik’s shot managed to pull Naeher out of the goal. Although her shot seemed to be slightly deflected by Naeher, Ando was waiting at the far post to make a diving finish. Ando quickly retrieved the ball from the back of the net and ran it back to the center of the pitch. Duisburg stayed calm and determined. Alexandra Popp scored by powering in a diving header after a weak Ando header ricocheted off the crossbar. Duisburg’s go-ahead-goal was the result of Laudehr schooling Potsdam’s defense. Using quick 1v1 skills on the right side of the box, Laudehr was able to free herself and deliver a perfectly timed ball to the left side. Bresonik precise timing allowed her to rocket the ball into the net and be swarmed with her teammate's tackling celebrations.

Turbine Potsdam’s offense was shut down by a stellar performance defensively by Duisburg. Anonma and Nagasato had few free moments away from tight pressure. Potsdam was unable to patiently establish any offensive movement during the second half and began to send in long balls to the well-marked strikers.

The win closes the gap between Duisburg and Potsdam. Potsdam’s lead is now only two points.



FC Bayern München 1 Lok Leipzig 2
Despite equalizing in the 49th minute, Bayern München gave up the game winning goal just a minute later. Lok Leipzig takes advantage of the win by moving from tenth place to eighth. Bayern München drops to the relegation zone in 11th place.

SC Bad Neuenahr  1  Hamburger SV 0
Germany’s young star, Okoyino da Mbabi, continues to dominate and impress. Scoring the lone goal for Bad Neuenahr, Okoyino da Mbabi has strengthened Bad Neuenahr's position in the Bundesliga table. Although they remain in 7th place, Bad Neuenahr is now two points ahead of Lok Leipzig and three points ahead of Hamburger in the standings.

SG Essen-Schönebeck 0 –SC Freiburg 2
SC Freiburg gained ground on Essen-Schönebeck with their 2-0 shutout against the home team. Sainio and Kayikci both scored in the first half.
